What All-on-4 and All-on-6 mean

All-on-4 and All-on-6 replace a full arch of teeth, upper or lower, with one fixed bridge held by four or six implants. The bridge is screwed to the implants, so it does not come out at home; your dentist can remove it for maintenance.

The number of implants is a clinical decision, not a package choice. It depends on the bone you have, your bite and the shape of your jaw, and the surgeon makes it from your CBCT scan. For a longer explanation, read our All-on-6 patient guide.

Who it suits, and who it may not

Often a good fit

When most teeth in an arch are missing or failing

  • Most or all teeth in the upper or lower jaw are missing, loose or beyond repair
  • You wear a denture that moves and would prefer fixed teeth
  • There is enough bone for the implants, or the bone can be worked with using angled implants
  • Your general health allows a surgical procedure
Needs more discussion

When another approach may be better

  • Only a few teeth are missing: single implants or a bridge may keep more of your own teeth
  • Very little bone: a graft or sinus lift may be needed first
  • Uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, active gum infection or some medicines that affect bone healing
  • Radiotherapy to the head and neck

Tell us about your health when you send your X-rays. Some of these can be managed; the dentist will be honest if they cannot.

How it works

Planning starts before you travel, so your first trip is spent on treatment rather than waiting for a diagnosis.

  1. Before you travel

Send your X-ray and health history

A panoramic X-ray or CBCT scan from your dentist at home, or clear photos if you have none, plus a list of your medicines and health conditions.

  2. Before you travel

    Video call and written plan

The dentist reviews your case, talks it through with you, and we send a written plan and quote. Book flights once you are happy with it.

  3. Trip 1 · about a week

    CBCT scan and digital planning

A 3D CBCT scan in Vietnam shows the bone in detail. The implant positions are planned on the scan, and a surgical guide is made so they are placed where planned.

  4. Trip 1

    Guided surgery and temporary teeth

Any remaining teeth that cannot be kept are removed and the implants placed, under local anaesthetic with sedation available. A fixed temporary bridge is fitted, and the dentist checks you before you fly.

  5. At home · a few months

    Healing

The implants bond with the bone. You eat a softer diet and send photos or questions on WhatsApp if anything concerns you.

  6. Trip 2 · about 1–2 weeks

    Final bridge

New scans, a try-in, then the final bridge is fitted and the bite adjusted. You leave with cleaning instructions and your records.

Planning, sedation and the final bridge

Your case is planned with the clinical team led by Dr. Ta Hong Nhung, who has more than 15 years in practice. When sedation is used, an anaesthetist supervises. The bridge is designed and adjusted with you over both trips.

Implant brands we use

Your written plan names the implant brand, and your records include it, so any dentist can identify the parts later.

Straumann

Switzerland

Nobel Biocare

Neodent

Brazil, part of the Straumann Group

Dentium

South Korea

MegaGen

Which one for you?

It depends on your bone and your budget. The dentist explains the options; see also Straumann vs Nobel.

Comfort and sedation

Local anaesthetic is used for the surgery. If you are anxious, or the procedure is long, sedation is available, given with an anaesthetist supervising. The dentist goes through your medical history and the options with you beforehand.

Swelling and some discomfort are normal for a few days after full-arch surgery. You are given written instructions and medicines to manage them. Read more: when you need sedation for implants and reducing pain and swelling after implant surgery.

Questions people ask

Will I need All-on-4 or All-on-6?

It depends on your bone, your bite and the shape of your jaw. Dr. Do Nhu Chuyen decides after reviewing your CBCT scan. Six implants spread the load over more supports; four, with the back implants angled, can avoid a bone graft in some jaws. Your written plan explains which one is recommended for you and why.

How many trips does it take, and how long is each?

Two trips. The first takes about a week: planning, surgery and fixed temporary teeth. The second takes about 1–2 weeks, a few months later once the implants have healed, and is when the final bridge is made and fitted. The dentist confirms your timeline after seeing your X-rays or scan.

Will I have teeth between the two trips?

Yes. You fly home with a fixed temporary bridge screwed to the implants. You eat a softer diet while the implants heal, then the final bridge replaces it on your second trip.

Can I be sedated for the surgery?

Yes, sedation is available and is given with an anaesthetist supervising. Local anaesthetic is always used. The dentist discusses the options with you, taking your medical history into account, before the surgery day.

What if I do not have enough bone?

The CBCT scan shows how much bone there is and where. Angled implants can sometimes avoid a graft; in other cases a bone graft or sinus lift is needed, which can change the timeline. You are told this in your plan before you book, not after you arrive.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the number of implants, the implant brand and the bridge material. After the dentist reviews your X-rays, we send a written plan and quote. You can see an example of how a full-arch quote is set out on our dental implants page.

When can I fly home after the surgery?

Your first trip is planned so that the dentist checks the implants and the temporary bridge before you fly. Our guide on flying after implants or a sinus lift explains what affects the timing.

What happens if something needs attention after I get home?

Message us on WhatsApp with photos and the team passes them to your surgeon. You also leave with digital records, including the implant brand, so a dentist near you can see exactly what was done.
